Dealing with Depression
Depression can be one of the most challenging mental health conditions and can be difficult to overcome without professional help. Understanding what is causing or contributing to your depression and identifying your symptoms is the first step to fighting depression. An individual, tailored plan will be developed collaboratively to help you learn how to cope with symptoms, manage difficult, overwhelming emotions and negative thoughts, and help you to feel happy again and re-engage in life.
Overcoming Anxiety
The key factor in managing and overcoming anxiety lies in understanding your anxiety – the underlying causes, triggers, and symptoms. This can help you approach it in a whole new way and make meaningful changes. I will help you develop tools and strategies to break the vicious cycle of anxiety and reduce it which will allow you to take back control of your life.
Trauma
Unresolved issues from the past or recent events may require trauma-focused therapy to help process the memories and the impact these have on you in your daily life. I have training in several approaches including ART, EMDR, and CBT with Prolonged Exposure to help you work through traumatic or distressing memories, reconnect with loved ones and re-engage in meaningful living.
Living with a Chronic Condition
Learning that you have a chronic condition can be difficult and is often accompanied by feelings of anger, anxiety, or depression – if not all of these emotions. I can help you work through these and move towards acceptance of your diagnosis. I will help you gain better understanding of your symptoms and how these affect you on a physical, cognitive, and behavioural level, as well as on your relationships, at work, or in your social life. You will also learn new skills to effectively manage your condition, to adapt, feel confident again , and lead a full and meaningful life.
Insomnia
If you are dealing with long-standing sleep problems, CBT-I (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia) can be the answer you are looking for and is the most effective first-line treatment for chronic insomnia. CBT-I can help you regain a healthy sleeping pattern without the use of sleep medication and help you reduce or taper off sleep medication, depending on your goals, with most people responding to treatment in 2-6 sessions. I can help you identify and correct any negative beliefs or worries that contribute to poor sleep, develop healthy sleep habits, and eliminate behaviours that cause sleep deprivation.
Phobias
Having a phobia is very common, for example having a fear of heights, flying, snakes, thunderstorms. Most people don’t seek help if it is not interfering too much with their lives. If, for you, it is stopping you from doing enjoyable activities with family and friends and making your life a misery, I can help you in as little as 1-2 treatment sessions. ART or EMDR can help you eliminate or reduce your fears so you can do all the things your fear has prevented you from doing.
OCD, Habits, and Tics
I can teach you how to manage your obsessive and compulsive urges and intrusive thoughts, and reduce or eliminate unhealthy habits and tics. You can learn how to manage intense, overwhelming emotions and respond to them in ways that don’t interfere with living your life.
